The IRON NEST Elevation Calculator is a fan-made firing helper for IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator. It converts target distance and powder-charge count into the gun elevation used by the community manual-aiming rule. It can also reverse the same rule, letting you enter elevation and charges to estimate the corresponding distance.

How to Calculate Elevation in IRON NEST

The commonly used manual formula is:
  • Elevation (°) = Distance (km) × 12 ÷ Charges
The same relationship can be written as Elevation = Distance ÷ Max Range × 60, because each powder charge adds about 5 km of maximum range in the community firing model. One charge reaches 5 km, two reach 10 km, and the pattern continues up to six charges at 30 km.

Distance to Elevation Example

Suppose the target is 7.54 km away and you load 2 charges:
  • 7.54 × 12 ÷ 2 = 45.24°
Set the gun elevation to approximately 45.24°. Two charges have a 10 km maximum range under this rule, so a 7.54 km target is within range.

Elevation and Charges to Distance

This calculator also works in reverse. If you already know the elevation and charge count, use:
  • Distance (km) = Elevation (°) × Charges ÷ 12
For example, 30° with 2 charges corresponds to approximately 5 km. This reverse mode is useful for checking a saved firing setting or building your own quick-reference table.

Which Powder Charge Should You Use?

A simple manual approach is to choose the lowest charge count whose maximum range covers the target. Using the community 5 km-per-charge rule, a target at 12 km needs at least 3 charges. You can still compare higher charge counts: more charges reach the same distance with a lower elevation angle.

Why Compare All 1–6 Charges?

Most guides show only the formula for one selected charge. The comparison table above calculates every charge count at once, so you can immediately see which settings are reachable and how much the required elevation changes. This is especially useful when you want to avoid recalculating the same target six times.
