How to use the Subway Calorie Calculator
The Subway Calorie Calculator lets you build a custom sandwich instead of relying only on the calories listed for a preset menu item. Choose a protein or sandwich base, select either a 6-inch or Footlong, then add your bread, cheese, vegetables, and sauces.
The calculator adds the nutrition values for the ingredients you select so you can see an estimated calorie total as well as protein, dietary fiber, saturated fat, sugars, and sodium.
6-inch vs. Footlong Subway calories
Subway's U.S. nutrition table provides sandwich ingredient portions based primarily on a 6-inch serving and instructs users to double applicable values for a Footlong.
This calculator therefore uses:
Footlong nutrition ≈ 2 × 6-inch nutrition
For example, a bread listed at 200 calories for a 6-inch serving contributes approximately 400 calories to a Footlong calculation before the protein, cheese, vegetables, or sauce are added.
Why your custom Subway calories can be different
A Subway sandwich is customizable, so two orders using the same protein can have very different calorie totals. Bread, cheese, avocado, and sauces can all change the final number.
This is also why the result from this calculator may not exactly match the calorie number displayed beside a named sandwich in the Subway ordering menu. A menu item can have a predefined recipe that already includes specific bread, cheese, vegetables, or sauce.
Subway bread calories
Bread can account for a significant part of the sandwich's total calories. The calculator includes several breads listed in Subway's U.S. nutrition information, including Artisan Italian, Hearty Multigrain, Jalapeño Cheddar, and Artisan Flatbread.
Because the calculator treats the bread separately, you can switch between breads and immediately see how the estimated total changes without rebuilding the entire sandwich.
Subway sauce calories can add up quickly
Sauce choice can make a noticeable difference, particularly if multiple sauces are added. The listed U.S. nutrition values vary substantially between options such as mayonnaise, Peppercorn Ranch, Baja Chipotle, Yellow Mustard, BBQ Sauce, and Red Wine Vinegar.
The result includes a separate calorie breakdown, making it easier to see how many calories come from the protein, bread, cheese, vegetables, and sauces.
Compare lower-calorie ingredient swaps
A useful feature of this calculator is the lower-calorie swap comparison. If your selected bread, cheese, or sauce has a lower-calorie alternative in the calculator, the result shows approximately how many calories could be removed by changing that single ingredient.
This does not mean that the lowest-calorie option is automatically the best nutritional choice. Calories are only one part of a food's nutritional profile, so protein, fiber, saturated fat, sugars, sodium, and your overall diet should also be considered.
Why does the calculator show some vegetables as 0 calories?
Some Subway vegetable portions are listed as zero calories in the U.S. nutrition table because nutrition-label values are reported using standard serving and rounding rules. That does not mean the food literally contains no energy at an unlimited quantity.
Subway nutrition information can vary
Subway notes that its nutrition information is based on standard recipes and product formulations, but actual values can vary because of supplier changes, region, season, and small differences in product assembly.
Menu availability also varies between restaurants. For the most accurate information about a specific order, compare this estimate with the nutrition information shown by Subway for the restaurant and menu item you are ordering.
Frequently asked questions
- Q. How do I calculate Subway calories?A. Choose your sandwich protein or base, size, bread, cheese, vegetables, and sauces. The calculator adds the nutrition values of the selected ingredients to estimate the total calories.
- Q. Are Footlong Subway calories exactly double a 6-inch?A. For the nutrition data used by this calculator, Footlong ingredient values are calculated as two 6-inch servings, following Subway's U.S. nutrition-table guidance. Actual restaurant portions can vary slightly.
- Q. Which Subway bread has the fewest calories in this calculator?A. Among the breads currently included here, Hearty Multigrain has the lowest listed 6-inch calorie value at 200 calories. Artisan Italian is listed at 210 calories, Artisan Flatbread at 220, and Jalapeño Cheddar at 240.
- Q. How many calories are in Subway mayonnaise?A. The January 2026 Subway U.S. nutrition table lists a 14 g mayonnaise serving at 100 calories for the applicable 6-inch sandwich portion. This calculator doubles that amount when Footlong is selected.
- Q. Does the calculator include protein and sodium?A. Yes. Unlike a calculator that only adds calories, this calculator combines the listed protein, dietary fiber, saturated fat, sugars, sodium, and estimated ingredient weight for the full custom build.
- Q. Why is my result different from the Subway app?A. The calculator builds the sandwich ingredient by ingredient. A preset Subway menu item may already use a standard combination of bread, cheese, vegetables, and sauce, so its displayed nutrition can be different from a custom build.
- Nutrition data used in this calculator is based on Subway U.S. Nutrition Information published in January 2026. This calculator is independently developed and is not an official Subway tool. Menu items, ingredients, and nutrition information may vary by location and may change over time.
